Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a community owned initiative to universalise elemantary education. It has the objective to provide quality elementary education to all children up to the age of 14 years. Education of girls and children belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes are identified for special focus.

Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan was launched in the district on 13th August, 2001. It was inaugurated amidst the galaxy of public leaders, senior citizen, officials of the District Administration, teachers and students by Shri Kento Ete, Hon'ble Minister (P & AR). It was a mega ceremony in the district. The cardinal objectives of the Abhiyan are given given wide publicity throughout the district. 

 
The Cardinal objectives of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
1 All children of age group 6 - 14 will be in school by 2003.
2 All children to complete 5 years of primary schooling by 2007.
3 All children to complete 8 years of elementary schooling by 2010.
4 Focus on satisfactory quality education with emphasis on education for life.
5 Bridge all the gender and social category gap at primary stage by 2007 and at elementary
6 Universal retention by 2010.
The salient features of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Programme
1 Facilitate institutional reforms for ascertaining quality of school system.
2 Effective decentralization down to the school level.
3 Community ownership.
4 Community based planning and implementation.
5 Promote cost effective approaches involving local community.
6 Develop partnerships of central, state, local governments and the community for sustainable financing of education.
7 Encourage transparency in financial matters.
8 Priority to focused initiatives for girls education.
9 Education for disabled children.
10 Focus on early childhood care and education in close co-ordination with ICDS programme.
11 To build partnership at community level with programme of literacy.
 
The Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan is in full swing in the district. The awareness and mobilization teams have been formed. The awareness campaign camps have been organized in different locations of the district. Awareness meetings have been organized at Along, Kamba, Basar, Likabali, Liromoba, Mechuka. At Basar, Hon'ble Minister, Sh. K. Riba lighted the Abhiyan Deepak and candles. At Kamba, Hon'ble Minister, Sh. L. Ronya was the chief guest on the occasion. At Likabali, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Awareness campaign was torched by Sh. Rima Taipodia, Hon'ble Minister, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh. At Liromoba, Yomcha and Tirbin, Dy. Director of School Education led a team of officials and went round all the schools and villages of the area on foot. At Mechuka, the Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan was carried out in a big form under the leadership of ADC, Mechuka, where Sh. Mukut Mithi, Hon'ble Chief Minister was the chief guest.

Under the Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan the department has a programme to complete and achieve its target within the stipulated time of the Abhiyan by opening 18 new primary schools in different blocks of the district. This year, three primary schools have been upgraded in the district under Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan. Many schools will have new buildings and other infrastructure.  New toilets for boys and girls in different primary schools will be constructed. Many old primary and middle schools will be strengthened in the district. The district has been provided with 24 contract teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The district has proposed 101 new primary school teachers and 160 new upper primary teachers during 2002-2003 academic year.

The district has submitted 180 crores perspective plan of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in the district for 2002 to 2020.

The Govet. has sanctioned Rs. 13, 46, 000/- only for the pre-project activities. The 1st installment of Rs. 15, 71, 005/- of sanctioned amount as grant-in-aid under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for 2001-02 has been received. Under the current financial year 33% primary schools will be provided with school buildings. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has a lot to offer to us in terms of educational, academic literacy and school development. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan gives us an assurance of 100 percent enrollment of our children in the primary and elementary education in Govt. schools with all the initiatives guaranteed.
