PRESS NOTE: Consumers Awareness Campaign, Aalo .
 
 
Aalo, December 16: An one day “Consumers Awareness Campaign” was organized at Mechuka on 12th Dec’ 2008, by the West Siang unit of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs in co-ordination with NGO viz. Onge Welfare Society & Chukla Welfare Society. The programme was attended by a large number of people representing cross-section of the society and was chaired by ASM Chairperson, Tato-Mechuka Anchal Samity.

Inaugurating the awareness campaign, the Controller of Legal Metrology cum Director of Consumer Grievances of the State, Shri Gorik Dirchi appealed for active participation of common consumers to assert & exercise their rights, as guaranteed under the Consumer Protection Act & Laws. He hoped that such awareness programme would surely help the consumers in remote areas to update their knowledge on consumer protection activities. He has also assured all necessary departmental assistance to each & every aggrieved consumer.

Shri B.J. Dey, Deputy Controller of Legal Metrology & Registrar, Arunachal Pradesh State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission highlighted the prominent features of the Consumer Protecton laws and responsibilities of consumers for getting their complaints redressal.

Various fraudulent trading practices being adopted to cheat consumers, were also demonstrated by Shri Supriya Chackravarty, Technical Assistant (LM & CA) for general awareness of consumers.

Earlier, Shri Hoktum Ori ACLM and the DCPO of West Siang District welcomed the distinguished guests as also the common consumers. While narrating his experiences and departmental activities under his jurisdiction, Shri Ori shared some interesting consumer complaints and verdicts thereon for encouragement of general consumers.

During the inter-active session, people from all section representing School/ College students women groups, traders, public leaders, officers from Government and non Govt. Organizations whole heartedly participated and put forwarded their views and problems. The citizen of Mechuka in general appreciated the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs for their sincere effort and urged for necessity of setting up of one deptt. Office at Mechuka at the earliest.

The programme was ended with vote of thanks from Shri Jomba Kamgo, the Inspector of Legal Metrology, Aalo.
