Police Seizes Tobacco products within 100 yards of Schools

Aalo 25th Nov: Action against sale of Tobacco products within 100 yards of Educational Institutions to safeguard our children from the menace of tobacco was initiated by Aalo Police led by OC PS Aalo Insp. Y. Riram by conducting surprise raids against sellers of tobacco products on 24th Nov. last.
Under Sec 6 of Control of Tobacco & Other Product Act (COTPA ), sale of Tobacco products within 100 yards of educational Institutions is strictly prohibited and police, administration and medical department jointly launched such operations in the past but sale continued by erring shopkeepers to invite such action by the police. Operations were carried out in the shops in the vicinity of Government Higher Secondary School, Govt. Nehru Memorial School, Puak Gumin and Government Secondary School, New Market.
Eleven shops were found to be selling Tobacco products including cigarettes, bidis, gutka, etc, and Police seized 93 pkts cigarettes, 478 pkts bidis, 1014pkts Chewing Tobacco and 705 pkts Gutka. The SP West Siang District Shri Raja Banthia disclosed that Police will continue to take action against drugs and such violations of Tobacco regulations in future also and along with punitive action, awareness will also be imparted to aware the public and shopkeepers.
